America's Freedom Festival at Provo, including events known as Freedom Days, which include both in- and out-of-state vendors, is put on every year by a private organization. This private organization is called America's Freedom Foundation, Inc., which has several sponsors, including the city of Provo.
As of 2007, Provo City was listed as both a "Major Sponsor" and a sponsor of Freedom Days, among other events, on the foundation's official Web site. Because America's Freedom Foundation, Inc. is a private organization, they enact total control over everything. If they deem an item to not be what they consider "family friendly," then they will not allow you to see or buy it. Yet when the administrative director of Freedom Days 2007, Ms. Copple, was asked what "family friendly" meant, she could not define the term. America's Freedom Foundation, Inc. makes claims on their homepage as to "promoting ideals of democracy and freedom through education and events." This is the complete opposite of what actually goes on. Everything the patrons of Freedom Days see, hear or buy is carefully controlled by the foundation. Provo City should discontinue sponsoring private events such as this. Kellie Johnson, Orem
