Giving tree provides A.F. family with a car Print E-mail
Brittani Lusk - DAILY HERALD

One family was thrilled to receive a gift of transportation this Christmas. American Fork resident Rosie Arnold and her daughters were gifted a used Mercury Tracer Tuesday through a project in an Alpine neighborhood.

Steve and Suzanne Shippen adorned a 50-foot tall blue spruce with lights and giant red ornaments the size of beach balls about two weeks before Christmas. In the front of the tree was an opening where the Shippens hung index cards with the names of needy people. Friends, neighbors and strangers came and took the cards from the giving tree, and brought back Christmas presents for those in need.

Arnold's card contained a request for a car.

"We never thought anyone would actually fill that need," Steve Shippen said.

But the Shippens' neighbor Brent Brown offered a helping hand as the holiday drew near.

"He thought he would just come in and take all that was remaining and that was around 20 names," Steve Shippen said.

One of the names was Arnold's and Brown found a way to fill her need through his automotive dealership.

Steve Shippen said Arnold was overwhelmed to get the vehicle. Arnold has three teenaged daughters who are "as busy as any three teenaged girls can be in the extra curricular activities of their high school. They have not been able to get around for some time now," Shippen said.

Arnold expressed gratitude for the gift.

"The giving tree is real," Rosie Arnold said when she was presented with the car.
