The AAA Tipsy Tow program is available to all residents on New Year's Eve starting at 6 p.m. The service will ensure the potential driver and their vehicle are taken home. Drivers, potential passengers, bartenders and others are invited to call 1-800-222-4357 for anyone who is intoxicated. There are no reservations for the service. According to AAA information, 16,904 people died in the U.S. in 2006 in alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes. ALPINE As part of the Safe Community USA nonprofit public service program, the Lone Peak Public Safety District is offering the general public the opportunity to purchase emergency medical kits at cost. For every kit purchased, Lone Peak EMS will receive $5 to help purchase needed medical equipment and to provide emergency training. The citizen kits are valued at $95, but are available to purchase for $40 (tax included). Citizen kits are available for purchase at the Cedar Hills and Alpine fire stations. Police kits, which contain specialized trauma items, must be ordered online at: www.safecommunityusa.com/lonepeak or by calling 794-9622. An additional cost for shipping will apply to kits not picked up at one of the stations. OREM There will be a New Year's Eve celebration from 9 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. today at the Orem Senior Friendship Center, 93 N. 400 East. Admission is $15 per person. PROVO Utah Republican Party Chairman Stan Lockhart and Utah County Republican Party Chairman Marian Monnihan will be the speakers at the Utah County Republican Women meeting at noon on Jan. 7. They will discuss upcoming elections and the 2008 Legislative session. The meeting will be at the Provo City Library, 55 N. University Ave. A light lunch will be served. SARATOGA SPRINGS Judge Keith Stoney has been named as the new Saratoga Springs Justice Court judge. Starting in January, Saratoga Springs will hold justice court on Fridays in the City Council chambers, with Judge Stone presiding. The city is moving to a four-day work week schedule to free up the chambers as well as additional needed office space. A court clerk will be on hand, however, five days a week to accept fees, answer questions, or provide other services as needed. Stoney currently serves as a justice four days a week in West Valley City. |
