Advocates for Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York, eagerly handed out campaign buttons and bumper stickers Thursday as they rallied support for Clinton's campaign by releasing a new television commercial designed for Utah.
"Bush did nothing, we need solutions!" the commercial blared.
Rep. Jackie Biskupski, D-Salt Lake City, said that Clinton has a great deal of presence in Utah.
"Yes," said Biskupski, "she is the candidate and she deserves our support and she deserves to win."
Clinton's supporters presented the new campaign commercial, aimed specifically at the Utah public, in the Capitol building, hoping to gain votes for the presidential candidate. The commercial was made for Utah because the state's public doesn't respond well to negative media, said Donald Dunn, Clinton's authorized representative for Utah.
"Sen. Clinton understands that we as Utahns don't like negative campaigns," Dunn said. "She's sending a positive message with what she wants to do, and what she will do as president."
The fact that the commercial was made for Utah proves her commitment to Utah, Dunn said.
"The ad really hits home and shows that Hillary understands the everyday struggles that Utahns are going through," Dunn said. "She encourages every voice to be heard."
Sen. Mike Dmitrich, D-Price, hopes that Clinton's campaign will raise awareness for future Democrats.
"We would hope to add more to our eight seats in our Democrat caucus by next year," said Dmitrich.
Closing the meeting, a hopeful Hillary supporter asked if there would be any chance of Hillary coming to Utah.
"We're working on it," said Caroline Cole, the Utah field director for Clinton's campaign. |
