The City of Saratoga Springs filed a request Jan. 24 with Lehi City for a copy of a resolution with an intent to annex 1,800 acres that Lehi council members unanimously approved last week.
According to the Government Records Access and Management Act or GRAMA, Lehi has 10 business days by law to submit a response.
Lehi made the opening move to annex more than 1,800 acres of land along its western border Jan. 22, but some of the property is part of Saratoga Springs' own annexation plan.
Saratoga Springs can protest Lehi's move to the state, but its city officials said they need more information before it can take any action.
"We're evaluating just what it means still," Saratoga Springs City Manager Ken Leetham wrote in an e-mail. "I'm sure that we'll have a position on this at some time in the near future."
Mayor Timothy Parker said the original agreement with Lehi's former mayor Ken Greenwood was that all the land west of the Jordan River, other than what was already incorporated, would belong to Saratoga Springs.
Since the land is undeveloped as yet and neither city has actually annexed it, anyone wanting to claim it has to file with the State of Utah in order to add it to their municipality. Both Saratoga Springs and Lehi filed a annexation plan declaration involving the property to Utah State in 2003. |
