SALT LAKE CITY -- Curious if there's a crime wave in your neighborhood?
Finding the answer could be as easy as checking your e-mail or visiting a Web site.
State officials said Wednesday that more than three dozen law enforcement agencies have agreed to send their police reports to www.crimereports.com, where they will be posted online in the form of an interactive map. Thefts, burglaries, murders, sex offenses and other crimes are all displayed on a map.
Daily, weekly or monthly alerts can also be sent by e-mail.
The Web site is free and the state is picking up the tab for the Web site to host the information provided by law enforcement.
Attorney General Mark Shurtleff says he hopes Utah residents will use the site to become more vigilant about crime at the local level. There are about 140 law enforcement agencies in the state and state officials say they expect police departments like Salt Lake City's to begin using the site soon.
