Hill seeks to represent Provo in state House Print E-mail

Claralyn Hill has announced that she will be running for election to the Utah House of Representatives. She seeks the seat in District 62 in northern Provo. Rep. ChristopherN.Herrod, a Republican, is the incumbent in that district. Hill said she will run as a Democrat.

Hill is an attorney who has worked for several non-profit and public-sector groups including Utah Community Credit Union before and after she graduated from law school at Brigham Young University. This is her first step into public service.

STATEWIDE

• The Family History Library will offer a series of classes about FamilySearch indexing, an online program that allows people to index genealogical records and make them available to the public. The series of classes will be presented from 9:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Saturday at the Family History Library, located to the west of Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City. PROVO

• Run for Red, a fundraiser for the disaster services of the Red Cross, will be at 10 a.m. on March 8 at Independence High. The money raised from this event last year was immediately put to work, helping the Red Cross to respond to disasters in Utah, including the Crandall Canyon mine disaster.

• The Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Utah, Utah County Health Department and Outrage Anti-Tobacco Youth Group will be honoring the Reams Family Foods store on Saturday. The store gained state-wide attention last fall when owner Paul Reams decided to pull cigarettes and beer from its inventory. Businesses are honored monthly by the coalition group for their tobacco-free policies.

The public is invited to participate in the presentation at 1 p.m., or to stop by for an open house from 1-4 p.m. Popcorn, helium balloons and prizes will be given out during the three-hour celebration. SPRINGVILLE

• Springville Historical Society's annual lecture will be held at 7 p.m. today at the City Conference Center, 50 S. Main St. Kendal Oldroyd will be presenting "SOS Drug History in Springville."
