Fred Desposorio announced his candidacy Wednesday for the Senate District 16 seat. Desposorio will be running as a Democrat against incumbent Curtis Bramble for the second time after Bramble won the seat in 2004.
"I cannot wait for the second round," Desposorio said.
Fred Desposorio is a native of Peru and said one of his key issues in the race will be immigration reform. He said he is an advocate for immigrants, regardless of which country they have come from.
Desposorio said property tax reform, pro-life and environmental protection are also key concerns for him. If elected, he said he will strive to keep nuclear waste out of Utah.

OREM
Beginning in fall of 2008, Meridian School will move to a new location -- 280 S. 400 East in Orem. The building is owned by the Christ Evangelical Church and is currently the temporary home of Liahona Academy.
Meridian is an independent preparatory school founded in 1989 by parents and currently enrolling 210 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
The school's new building is approximately 25,000 square feet with 23 classrooms, a large gymnasium and a kitchen. The property has a fenced-in playground and 160-space parking lot. It is across the street from Orem High School and within walking distance of Orem Library and SCERA Park.
Headmaster Dr. David Hennessey said the new building is a temporary location.
Meridian has been working for several years to construct a building of its own. The land for the site is located on 2000 North in Provo (2000 South in Orem) between I-15 and Geneva Road, and consists of 14 acres of unincorporated land. There are no utilities to the site, creating a roadblock for construction. Meridian continues to work through utility and annexation issues to eventually construct their own building.
Meridian has been in its current building on 900 East in Provo for 19 years. The property has changed hands several times and is now owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Meridian's lease ends on May 31 and the lease at the new location begins on July 1.
