Opening day -- The public is invited to the open day of the American Fork Youth Baseball League. It will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Art Dye Park, 550 E. 1000 North.

City councilman Ricky Storrs will give a welcome, then the team introductions and opening pitches will begin. There will be several activities for children, including a chance to meet some of the area professional sports mascots and enjoy carnival games. Carnival tickets are five for $1. There will be a fire truck on hand for them to see. Pizzas and hot dogs will be sold.

 

Women of Worth -- The American Fork and Lehi area Chambers of Commerce are co-sponsoring a Women in Business and Wellness Conference, "Women of Worth . . . Hats Off to You" It will be May 15 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the headquarters of Tahitian Noni. The speakers will include Matt Townsend and Miss Utah, Jill Stevens.

Those who attend are invited to wear a hat and donate one in support of the women who have lost their hair during their fight against cancer. There will be a contest and prizes given for various hat categories.

The cost of the conference is $30 if paid by May 8; $35 after that date. Those who wish to attend may register online at afchamber.org or lehiareachamber.org. Further information is available from American Fork Chamber director Debby Lauret at 756-5110.

Benefit yard sale -- There will be a benefit yard sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Robinson Park, at 100 East and Main Street. The proceeds will benefit an addition to the home of Steve and Teresa Phillips in American Fork. Steve Phillips suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and has had a hard time maneuvering his wheelchair in the existing home. Family, friends and neighbors have volunteered to build an addition on the family home which will give him more livability and chance to interact with his family. People and companies have donated both funds and building materials to help the cause.

The proceeds of the yard sale will be added to the sum to help purchase materials.

There will be a live band performing and food for sale at the yard sale. There will also be a silent auction.

American fork celebrates national day of prayer -- The public is invited to attend a local commemoration of the National Day of Prayer. It will be May 1 from 7-8 p.m. in Robinson Park, 100 East and Main, American Fork. The event is hosted by Calvary Mountain View Church.

BIcycle fair planned -- The American Fork Police Department will be hosting a free Bicycle Safety Fair on May 3. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, and will be held in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 949 Grasslands Drive. The fair is co-sponsored by the American Fork Police Department and the American Fork Wal-Mart store. In addition to the riding course and demonstrations, participants will be able to obtain city registration tags for their bicycles at no cost. The registration tags are a great deterrent to bicycle theft and greatly aid in bicycle owner identification and recovery.

This event is geared for all levels of riders and is expected to be worthwhile for any bicycle enthusiasts who want to sharpen their riding skills and bicycle knowledge. Additional information is available from Lt. Sam Liddiard at 763-3020.

Mexican activities at library -- The American Fork Public Library will present an evening of traditional Mexican activities Monday from 6:30-8:30. It will be in the children's area of the library, 64 S. 100 east, American Fork and will include Spanish and English stories, music and videos, face painting, Mexican jumping beans game, a tissue paper flower craft, a toy craft, Mexican hat dancing and a piñata at the end of the evening.
