Mapleton Literacy Center offers summer tutoring Print E-mail
Daily Herald

The Mapleton Literacy Center is offering tutoring to students over the summer months and invites any parent to call if help is needed for their child.

If a student is not reading on grade level when school ends, help is available to give them that extra boost in reading ability.

Tutors will be assigned to students after they are screened for reading level.

Parents may also be tutors for their own children and visit the center during Library hours to make use of the many excellent resources. Parents, or even grandparents, may use the center after being trained by the director.

They have books, computer programs, games and many other materials to help increase reading skills.

The hours for supervised tutoring will be 9 a.m. to noon Mondays through Thursdays.

They are always looking for volunteers to help students.

If you are age 16 or older and wish to help, call489-6584. This is a wonderful opportunity to give community service that looks great on a college entrance application or in applying for scholarships.

The tutors must give one hour of time on two days per week and must attend tutor training.

There is a paid position available for an Assistant Director at the Mapleton Family Literacy Center. You must be interested in children, familiar with teaching and reading techniques, pass a background check, and be available from two to four mornings a week in the summer and two to four afternoons after school during the school year.

Parents may visit the Library at the end of May to learn about the Summer Reading Program and to register their children. All students must consistently read books during the summer months to retain reading skills.

Visit the Parent Resource Center to check out some fun books and other materials for learning.
