Mapleton Chorale announces Spring Concert Season Print E-mail
Daily Herald

The Mapleton Chorale has announced an unusually busy spring concert season, with performances at the Mapleton Community Center, the Alpine Tabernacle and--for the first time--a featured Temple Square Performances concert in the historic Assembly Hall on Temple Square.

"We've auditioned for a slot on the Temple Square Performances calendar for the past three years," said Suzanne Judd, president of the Mapleton Chorale. "The fact that we were accepted in 2008, along with fine local and international musical artists, shows how much progress we've made as a choir. Of course, the highlight of our spring concert season is always performing for family, friends and community members right here in Mapleton."

This year, the choir will perform a wide variety of music--from Beethoven's electrifying Hallelujah and Mormon Tabernacle Choir director Mack Wilberg's inspiring arrangement of Arise, O God, and Shine, to familiar folk favorites like Shenandoah and Shoo Fly Pie. "We're performing the kind of music everyone can enjoy--from serious choral music aficionados to people who have never attended a concert before," said Cory Mendenhall, director of the Mapleton Chorale. "If you've never heard the Mapleton Chorale perform, you're missing out. It's a wonderful and worthwhile way to spend an evening."

The Mapleton Chorale spring concert season kicks off on Sunday, May 4th with performances at the Provo Community Church at 12:00 noon and at the Alpine Tabernacle in American Fork at 7:00 p.m. For the evening concert, the Timpanogos Chorale will join the Mapleton Chorale to perform two numbers of their own, as well as combine with the Mapleton Chorale for the finale, Beethoven's Hallelujah. Next, the Mapleton Chorale will perform on Thursday, May 15th at 7:00 p.m. in the Mapleton Community Center. The chorale will give its final spring performance in the Assembly Hall on historic Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City on Saturday, June 7th at 7:30 p.m. Concerts at the Alpine Tabernacle and the Assembly Hall on Temple Square will feature professional organist Larry Blackburn. Admission to all Mapleton Chorale spring concerts is free of charge.
