Though Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. was unable to receive his honorary doctorate during commencement exercises at UVSC on Friday because of a recent surgery, he is not without an honor from the college.
Last month, the Center for the Study of Ethics at Utah Valley State College awarded Huntsman the Environmental Ethics Award. The award came as part of the college's Annual Environmental Ethics Conference, which was held earlier this month. The governor was unable to attend.
According to a press release, Huntsman was honored for his work on the Western Regional Climate Action Initiative. The initiative began in February 2007 with the governors of Arizona, California, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington. Utah joined later that year, according to the initiative's Web site.
Huntsman's spokeswoman, Lisa Roskelley, said he was honored to be recognized for his work on this issue.
"When it comes to the environment and energy security, Governor Huntsman has worked to find new and innovative ways to address the environmental issues," she said. |
