COUNTYWIDE

• In an effort to serve individuals with limited or no health insurance, multiple community partners will be coming together to offer the Uninsured Health Fair from 4:30-7 p.m. on May 6 at the Utah County Health and Justice Building.

Free physical exams will be provided for those with a health concern or those who have not had a recent physical exam. Health screenings offered will include blood glucose, blood pressure, hematocrit levels, height/weight/BMI, dental and vision. Fluoride varnishing and fluoride prescriptions will be given for children. Childhood immunizations will be offered for $5 per shot as well as selected adult immunizations (also for $5 per shot).

Information on community resources for medical, dental and mental health care will be given to those who attend. Spanish interpreters will also be available.

Community partners involved include the Utah County Health Department, Community Health Connect, Intermountain Healthcare, Friends For Sight, Horizon Home Health, Mountainlands Clinic, the BYU Comprehensive Clinic, the Seraphine Clinic and Shriners Hospital. The Utah Department of Health will have its CHIP van on site to help those who qualify to sign up for the CHIP program or Medicaid.

• Bajio Mexican Grill will hold a fiesta celebration at all Utah locations, from 2-5 p.m. on Monday -- Cinco de Mayo.

There will be pinatas, free chips and salsa and free gifts for the first 100 customers (including free meals for a year for one lucky winner).

ALPINE SCHOOL DISTRICT

• The Alpine School District Foundation Accent on Excellence award recipients for 2008 are: Linda Anderson, Sharon Elementary; Kelly Gardner, Geneva Elementary; Patti Greaves, Scera Park Elementary; Cathy Jolley, Timberline Middle School; Chris Kofoed Mountain Ridge Jr. High School; Michelle Ormond, American Fork High School; Shauna Rasmussen, Highland Elementary; Phyllis Sorensen, Pony Express Elementary; Paula Tucker, Saratoga Shores Elementary; Caroline West, Barratt Elementary; Becky White, Lehi High School; and Marilyn Wursten, Oak Canyon Jr. High School.

At the banquet on May 1, each recipient received a check for $500, a throw, a book, a dinner certificate and a piece of jewelry. Each of their schools also received a $500 check.

In 11 years, 132 outstanding Alpine district educators have been honored. Their schools have received a total of $66,000 to help students, and the recipients received a total of $72,000 and other gifts.

HIGHLAND

• Lone Peak FFA will hold its annual banquet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. All FFA members and their parents are invited to attend. This is where senior officers will give their retiring addresses, new officers will be elected and end of the year awards will be given. The banquet will be held in the Lone Peak High School cafeteria, 10189 N. 4800 West, and dinner will be served. Any questions please contact the Ag Department at 717-4568 ext. 238.

PROVO

• The Beehive Bazaar is quickly becoming all-the-buzz in Utah every spring and winter when it showcases the independent designs, arts, crafts and edibles of more than 50 local artists. The bazaar touts a hand-selected inventory of unique, quality and handmade goods including jewelry, paintings, bags, glass, vinyl, pap, clothing, accessories and one of a kind gifts, as well as cupcakes, jams, cookies, caramels and treats.

This spring the Beehive Bazaar will host an after party with food, music and fashion, where you can mingle with people you know and ought to know.

The bazaar, at 310 W. 500 North, will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on May 9 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 10. The after party will be at 9 p.m. on May 10.
