Cathy Allred - NORTH COUNTY STAFF

Lynn Story, 53, died in her sleep Sunday while on vacation in Moab with her family, leaving a stunned community to mourn her loss.

As the Eagle Mountain civic events planner, Story was in the midst of preparing 2008 Pony Express Days, a citywide celebration from May 30 to June 7.

"She had such a vibrancy," city administrator John Hendrickson said. "She was excited. The ideas just flew off of her like sparks off of a flint. And she was always happy and we were happy [along] with her."

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 S. 2200 West, Riverton.¬ Interment will be at the Riverton Cemetery.

Hendrickson said it came as a great shock to city staff and officials.

"We felt sad about it and melancholy," he said. "We have heartfelt condolences [for] her family."

Eagle Mountain Mayor Heather Jackson said she was shocked by the news.

"Lynn's passing was a shock to everyone in the city. We are dedicating Pony Express Days to her and plan to put on a great event in her honor," Jackson said.

Story began working for the city about eight months ago.

The Christmas city program and tree lighting ceremony was her first official public event.

The Miss Eagle Mountain Pageant was the last city event she officially organized as its pageant director.

Her vivacious, positive personality helped her quickly become part of the Eagle Mountain staff and family.

Story was hired to assume civic responsibilities previously shouldered by administrative secretary Angie Ferre, such as organizing Youth Council meetings, concerts, town hall meetings, activities and other citywide events. Ferre will be reacquiring her Pony Express Days duties.

"Lynn was not just Pony Express Days, she was other things," Hendrickson said. "She worked well with everybody in Eagle Mountain. They are all in shock."

Donna Milakovic worked with Story and met with her once a week for two months. She said she was in shock when she learned of Story's death and wished she could have gotten to know her better outside of work.

"She was always supportive, very kind, a bubbly personality," Milakovic said.

A Riverton resident, Story is survived by her husband, Jon, her mother and father, John and Judy Harrington, two children, a grandson and several other family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked contributions be sent to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the Humane Society of Utah.

"We will miss her," Hendrickson said. "She was devoted to Eagle Mountain. She put her heart and soul into making Eagle Mountain a fun place, an enjoyable place."
