SALT LAKE CITY -- Murray City and school officials have a big homecoming planned for David Archuleta, the Utah teen rocketing toward the "American Idol" crown.
Archuleta, 17, is scheduled for a Utah visit Friday. It's his first trip home since being picked as one of 24 competing for the Idol title on the hit Fox television series. He's is one of four singers who remain in the competition.
A pep rally at the Murray High School football stadium -- including a parade round the stadium with his family, and Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman -- is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. Archuleta is scheduled to sing for the expected crowd of 20,000.
Archuleta is also tentatively scheduled to sing the national anthem at Friday night's NBA playoff game between the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Lakers.
