Snow melt preparations -- Highland is ready for the spring snow melt.

"We have sand and bags placed in strategic locations and are monitoring known hot spots on a daily basis," Highland City Engineer Matt Shipp said. The places which have been a problem in the past are on 4800 West where the American Fork River crosses the road and in Hidden Oaks and Pheasant Hollow.

They have done a lot of preventive measures. A place where the water has flooded before has been fixed.

"When the landscaping was done in Silo Park by the pump station we put a berm in to prevent any overflow from going into the neighbor's basements," Shipp said.

"We haven't had any runoff yet. The debris basin in the mouth of the canyon is dry. We are monitoring the snow sites. Everything is in place to deal with the problems as they come up but the anticipation is killing us," he said on May 6.
