In the cards Shuffling Mother's Day options? Come up aces with dining alternative Print E-mail
Logan Molyneux - DAILY HERALD

Maybe you want to treat Mom to dinner, but with Mother's Day being on a Sunday and all, perhaps you think it's not the right time to take her out.

Gift cards were invented for just such an occasion. You can get the gift you want for her and present it on Mother's Day -- and if you're lucky, she'll take you along when she uses it. Because, you know, she loves you.

Many local restaurants sell gift cards, but here are a few Mom might like, depending on what kind of meal you want to get her. These restaurants all sell gift cards or certificates in any amount.

For a nice lunch with the girls, try Kneaders.

The sandwiches and panini here are large and tasty, made with fresh-baked breads and piled high with fixings. Or Mom might like one of the soups or gourmet salads, such as the Turkey Feta salad made with smoked, pulled turkey.

There are plenty of tasty choices for dessert, too, including cheesecake, croissants and eclairs. Afterward, take home a loaf of foccacia, paesano or Hazlenut 12 Grain bread.

For a quick indulgence, try Cafe Rio.

This Mexican eatery is good for a quick meal the way you like it -- diners can customize their own burritos or salads with the help of an assembly line of chefs.

Moms will love the zesty, flavorful salads with the now-famous tomatillo-ranch dressing, served in a large, soft tortilla bowl. Both the salads and most other dishes are big enough to share and will be relatively easy on the pocketbook.

For a more casual dinner, try Shoots.

Mom might want to avoid the wait (and prices) at those chain restaurants and instead have some creative and tasty Chinese food at Shoots.

The Honey Roasted Walnut Chicken is worth the trip itself, but the wide selection of favorite and not-so-familiar dishes will fit any mom. Plus, the great service will make Mom feel a little pampered.

For some fine dining, try Magleby's Grill.

Not to be confused with Magleby's Fresh (though you could use a Magleby's gift certificate at either place), this nice restaurant is sure to please Mom with its selection of pasta, seafood and chicken dishes.

Less hungry? There's sandwiches. More hungry? Have one of the steaks. If nothing else, Mom won't be able to resist the four-layer chocolate cake with raspberry sauce.
