Disgraced democracy Print E-mail
Daily Herald

Much has been made of Barack Obama's relationship to Reverend Wright. Obama finally caved to the public pressure and the Reverend's increased volatility by denouncing his pastor.

I find it sad that Obama felt the need to denounce his preacher of more than 20 years for potential political gain. Obama has listened to this man preach long enough to realize that the Reverend has some controversial views, and he stuck with him. Obama may privately agree with some of what the Reverend has said, and there would be nothing wrong with that.

This presidential campaign has disgraced democracy, with every candidate showing a willingness to do or say anything to gain an advantage. The candidates and the media should stop focusing on periphial issues and focus on what the future President can do to improve this country. I don't care what kind of prayer someone says, or what kind of sermon they listen too, I care about their ideas for improving health care and education.

This thread discusses the Content article: Disgraced democracy

Now that it looks like Obama will be facing McCain in the general election, hopefully the two candidates can focus on issues of government. I don't care to know about personal infidelities, interests, suspicious associations, etc. I want to hear how the two candidates propose to improve America for me, and the population in general. Issues like education, healthcare, war, civil liberties, finances, those are things that impact me, not whether one of the candidates did drugs once in high school or whether one of the candidates is friends with someone who is critical of America. Hopefully, the disgraces of this campaign can fall by the wayside and the general election can represent the best of democracy.
