• WHAT'S IN A NAME? -- Orem police said a man lied about his identity during a traffic stop, but the name on his work shirt gave him away.
According to Orem police, an officer pulled over a black Land Rover near 500 North and 800 West on Monday morning for a traffic violation. The 18-year-old driver said his name was Kory and told the officer that he didn't have any identification, police said. The officer became immediately suspicious when he noticed that the man's work shirt had the name Colton on it, police said, and the man became visibly nervous when the discrepancy was pointed out. The officer learned that the man was Colton Davis, who had a suspended driver's license and an arrest warrant on a contempt of court charge. He was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail. • ROLLOVER ACCIDENT -- The Utah Highway Patrol cited alcohol and drowsy driving as the causes of a one-vehicle rollover accident in Spanish Fork Canyon on Tuesday morning. UHP trooper Cameron Roden said 21-year-old Brady Bills, of Spanish Fork, was eastbound near milepost 198 on U.S. Highway 6 around 8:19 a.m. when he drifted off the right side of the road and overcorrected to the left. His pickup truck rolled and hit a power pole. The power lines came down when the truck hit the pole. Bills was airlifted to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, though his injuries turned out to be less serious than originally thought. According to Roden, Bills told police he had been working for a long time and had not slept, and must have fallen asleep on the road. Roden said officers found indications of alcohol use, and Bills was cited with a DUI. • STOLEN GUNS -- An Alpine resident turned over two guns to police that were reported stolen more than 20 years ago. According to Alpine police, the man was removing cup holders from the center console of his SUV when he found the loaded guns. The man told police that he bought the used vehicle from a dealership in 2006. Records indicate it was a rental vehicle at one time. Alpine police said the guns had been reported stolen in Topeka, Kan., and Bloomfield, Mo. The agencies that listed the weapons as stolen have been contacted. • INTERSTATE ACCIDENT -- Two separate accidents slowed traffic on Interstate 15 near the 1600 North exit in Orem on Tuesday evening. The first accident involved two vehicles on the southbound side of the freeway. UHP spokesman Cameron Roden said the vehicles were out of traffic and no injuries were reported. On the northbound side, a three-vehicle accident closed down the far left lane. Only one injury was reported in that wreck, a 2-year-old girl with a bloody nose, Roden said. |
