The 15-year-old boy arrested in a series of break-ins at Provo homes over the weekend has an extensive criminal history stretching back over the past year and a half.
Prior to his arrest on Sunday, the teen had been in juvenile court for 10 cases consisting of 21 offenses since December 2006, including five felonies, according to court records provided by the Administrative Office of the Courts. He has spent a total of 112 days in detention, as well as a total of 45 days at an observation and assessment facility since July 2007.
The boy was arrested Sunday after police responded to reports of several break-ins that morning and the previous night in the area of 200 North and 400 West in Provo. According to Provo police, the teen admitted breaking into three houses and attempting to enter a fourth, and even took officers to the homes and explained how he broke in.
Provo police spokesman Capt. Cliff Argyle said officers believe the teen, whose name was not released because he is a minor, intended to have "physical contact" with children who lived in the homes, all of whom are 6 years old or younger.
The teen's felony offenses are all burglary charges in December 2006, July 2007 and March 2008.
His misdemeanor offenses include voyeurism of a victim over 14 years old, assault on a school employee, trespassing, false identification and theft.
The teen was living in an apartment in Provo. Court documents list his mother as living in Fort Duchesne and his legal guardian as living in Roosevelt. It was not immediately clear who he was living with in Provo.
Provo police said the teen is in joint custody of the Division of Child and Family Services and the Division of Services for People with Disabilities.
