Rival PC Laptops offers free service to abandoned PC Club customers

PC Club, a California personal computer retailing chain, filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy and shuttered 37 stores nationwide including three in Utah, as well as its online ClubIT.com store, on Tuesday. The three stores are in Orem, Riverdale and Murray.

As a result of the Ch. 7 filing, which will result in the liquidation of PC Club's assets, around 300 workers were also laid off. It is unclear how many of those workers are in Utah.

To attract more business, South Jordan-based PC Laptops on Wednesday announced it will offer free lifetime labor and service support to all PC Club brand computer owners. PC Laptops, which has more than 80 workers at its eight stores nationwide including one in Orem, also announced today that it has immediate full-time job openings for 20 salespeople and computer enthusiasts in Utah and Nevada.

"It stinks to be left stranded, with no place to turn to for any help, particularly with something as critical as a personal computer," said Dan ("The Laptop Man") Young, president and founder of PC Laptops.

PC Laptops had launched similar free service and support programs when other PC companies have closed their doors including such national players as CompUSA, Gateway and Micron Computers, and more recently, Totally Awesome Computers.
