If you like to go to garage sales, and you want to support a good cause, come to the Cystic Fibrosis Yard Sale sponsored by Lauren Ostler and the Ostler Family. The yard sale will be on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 194 N. 900 East in Springville.

All proceeds from the yard sale will go to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a HYPERLINK "http://www.cff.org/UploadedFiles/aboutCFFoundation/CFF%20501c3.pdf" "_blank" nonprofit donor-supported organization, is to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide).

A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus. In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.

You may remember that two years ago Lauren was the Make-A-Wish child for Springville High School. Each year Lauren's family raises money and participates in the Great Strides Walk, which is the major fund-raising event for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

At the yard sale will be used as well as new items. Some of these items will include television sets, lamps and new toys. Lauren and her sister, Camille, will also have a small food stand were they will be selling items to help raise money.

The Ostler Family thanks you for all of your support over these last few years to help make Lauren's quality of life a great one. Donations for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will also be accepted at this event. All donations and money spent will be tax deductible.
