Six to attend American Legion Boys' State Print E-mail

American Legion Post #28 reports six boys from Springville and Mapleton will go to Boys' State on Monday, June 9, 2008. They will leave the Springville Senior Center at 6:15 a.m. There will be an orientation meeting for the boys and parents at the Springville Senior Center Thursday, June 5, at 7 p.m.

Boys' State candidates are Tyler Brinkerhoff, son of Brad and Heidi Brinkerhoff of Mapleton, JaCoby W. Conover, son of Craig and Deanne Conover of Springville; Blake Johnson, son of Greg and Janet Johnson of Mapleton; Skyler Hansen, son of Jeff and Colette Hansen of Springville; Andrew Priest, son of Jeff and Linda Priest of Springville; and Ryan Turley, son of Darren and Anna Turley of Mapleton.

 

The purpose of Boys' State is "to educate youth in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship." It is a plan for training in the practical aspects of government.

The boys choose their own officials in accordance with regular election procedures and they learn the duties of various city, county and state offices.
