With just under 60 fire trucks, a speech given by Mayor Joe Thomas, and cake served to the public it was a 100th anniversary celebration to remember. ¬
On Saturday, May 10, fire trucks from all over South and Utah Counties wound their way down Main Street, entertaining the Spanish Fork Public.¬ And the fire trucks destination?¬ The new ball fields, where the public gathered to continue the festivities. Mayor Joe Thomas expressed his appreciation for our volunteer firefighters.¬ He presented Brent Jarvis, the Fire Chief, with a plaque stating In Appreciation For 100 Years Exemplary Service, Heroism and Outstanding Service. Elaine Hansen and Steve Money are Spanish Fork's Event Coordinators.¬ They helped put the celebration together.¬ Hansen says she received "many, many" thank yous.¬ "The greatest thing was to hear the firemen say thank you.¬ It was our chance to say thank you to them.¬ It was our time to say you guys are amazing.¬ Thanks for saving our lives and possessions," says Hansen. At the end of the speeches the firefighters blared their trucks' sirens together and enjoy cake with their family, friends, and the Spanish Fork public. Surrounding towns sent representatives from their fire departments to honor Spanish Fork Fire Department Centennial: Santaquin, tender and engine; Genola, brush truck and engine; American Fork, truck; Salem, engine, and two brush trucks; Provo, engine; Cache County, brush truck; Hyrum, brush truck; Elmo, mini pumper; Helper, tender; Grantsville, two vehicles; Mapleton, engine and tender; Wasatch County, engine; Elkridge, engine; Woodland HIlls, engine and brush truck, Pierce Manufacturing (Ross Equipment) engine; Toole City, truck; Payson, two engines, an ambulance and the Chief's vehicle; Orem, engine; Utah County, HBR; Springville, truck, two engines and a tender. Spanish Fork's entire fleet including the rehabbed American Lafrance engines concluded the parade. |
