Lehi High School

Pioneer Profile -- Outgoing, caring, school-spirited, and optimistic describes senior Melissa Florence.

The daughter of Julie and Scott Florence of Lehi, Melissa believes, "it's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice."

Melissa is a member of¬ Student Council, drill team, Dance Company, and musical dance theater.¬ She also is a member of the golf team, Governor's Honors Academy, and sports marketing team.¬ 

She has received the National English Merit Award, is consistently on the Honor Roll, and has received a full-ride scholarship to Southern Utah University.¬  She is enrolled in¬ the advanced placement¬ English literature class and maintains a 3.954 grade point average.

As a member of the Cedar Hollow 6th Ward, Melissa has served in all her Young Women's class presidencies and¬ served as a youth camp leader at¬ girls' camp.¬ 

She has participated in the Young Women in Excellence program, the Newport Beach Temple Jubilee, and was featured on the cover of the Church News.

In community activities, Melissa has helped with the Lehi Parade, visited and sang at local retirement centers, cleaned the beach, and volunteered with babysitting projects.

Her hobbies include, dancing, singing, attending sporting events and school plays, playing piano, watching movies with friends, and reading.¬ She also works part time at Best Buy in American Fork.

Melissa's future plans are to serve a mission for her church, attend college and major in psychology, live in Europe for six months, and get married and raise a great family.

State track meet -- The state track meet will be held May 16 and 17 at BYU.

Ballroom banquet -- The ballroom dance team banquet will be held May 17 at 6 p.m.

Textbook return -- All text books must be turned in by 2:15 p.m. on May 20.

Senior recognition -- "An Evening of Excellence" for seniors will be held May 21 at 7 p.m.

Finals schedule -- Finals will be May 22 and 23. School will get out early at 12:30 p.m.

Senior Dance -- Senior Dinner Dance will be held May 23 at 6 p.m. at the American Fork Amphitheater.

Willowcreek Middle School

Study help -- The last after-school study intervention time will be Tuesday from 2:30-4:15 p.m. A late bus run will be provided. Students may look on the internet at willowcreek.alpinedistrict.org for a list of teachers available to help that day.

Library -- All library books must be checked in by tomorrow.

School elections -- Studentgovernment elections for 2008-2009 student body positions will be held next week. Candidates and their supporters are asked to campaign fairly, respect others' campaign materials and keep school rules.

Choir concert -- The choir will present a concert on May 20 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

Orchestra concert -- The orchestra will perform their final concert of the season on May 21 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium

Band concert -- The band will present a concert on May 22 at 7 p.m.

Walk away testing -- The final cutoff for fourth term walk away testing is from 7-8 a.m. on May 23. No new walk away tests will be given after that time. Students are encouraged to re-take tests early.

Good bye dance -- The Goodbye Dance will be held on May 23 from 2:30-4 p.m.

Honors night -- Ninth grade honors night will be held in two sessions on May 27. Students whose last names begin with L-Z are invited to attend the first session with their parents at 6 p.m. in the auditorium. Students with A-K last names are invited to come with their parents to the second session at 7:45 p.m.

Cedar Valley Elementary

Fieldtrip -- Kindergarten, first and second grades will visit the Hogle Zoo tomorrow.

Bookmobile -- The Bookmobile will visit the school today. Students may return checked-out items. There will be no student checkouts today or on May 29.

Retirement open house -- A retirement open house will be held at the school on Monday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. for retiring teacher Linda Boyd and custodian Jeorgian Hacking.

Field day -- Field day activities, awards ceremony and a dance festival will be held on May 23 beginning at 12:30 p.m. on the school playing field. Families and friends are invited to attend.

Eagle Valley Elementary

Patriotic program -- Choir students will team up with singers from Pony Express Elementary to present a patriotic program, "This is America," on May 21 at 7 p.m. at the Silverlake Amphitheater.

Field days -- First through sixth grades will participate in field day activities on May 28. Kindergarten field day will be on May 29.

Harvest Elementary

Walk-a-thon -- Tomorrow is the Walk-a-thon fundraiser from 8-9 a.m.

Neighborhood program -- Students and school advisors in conjunction with Saratoga Springs City representatives will present a Neighborhood Outreach program on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the school gym. Community families are invited to attend.

Second-grade program -- Second-graders will present their program on May 22 from 1-2 p.m. for the school and from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for their parents.

Lakeview Academy

Talent show -- The school talent show will be on May 29. Students are invited to share their talents with the school.

Pony Express Elementary

Rendezvous -- Fourth graders will participate in a mountain man rendezvous tomorrow from 12:30-2 p.m.

Kindergarten field day -- Kindergarten students will participate in field day activities on Tuesday.

Volunteer appreciation -- Tuesday is PTA volunteer appreciation day. Students and teachers are reminded to say thanks to the dedicated volunteers who add to the educational experience.

Third-grade program -- Third-graders will present their program on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Parents are invited to attend.

Kindergarten program -- Kindergarten students will present their program on May 22-23.

FSO meeting -- The Family School Organization will meet on Monday at 1:30 p.m.

Saratoga Shores Elementary

Chime choir performance -- The chime choir will perform on Monday at 9:30 a.m. for the school and Wednesday at 6 p.m. for their parents.

Box top winners -- A successful yearlong box top collection fundraiser netted nearly $1,900 for the school. First-grade came in first place with fifth-grade coming in second, and second grade winning third place.
