MT. PLEASANT-- Fifth graders at Mt. Pleasant Elementary recently enjoyed a visit from two Civil War soldiers. "I felt like Generals Grant and Lee were right there with us, answering questions and helping us understand more about the bloodiest war in American History," commented one student.
More than 600,000 Americans lost their lives in this war, fought on U.S. soil. Mike Anderson and Kerry Coates came dressed in uniform, to enhance the mood of what they intended to teach. They displayed and discussed many items from the Civil War era, including weapons, ammunition, flags, clothing, food, pouches and haversacks. The closing statement the soldiers left was, " It is important that we keep fighting for America and freedom. |
