Strawberry Days 2008 was officially kicked off last week with the Rodeo Queen Pageant and the naming of junior and senior rodeo royalty. After being judged in horsemanship, modeling, public speech, impromptu question and interview with judges, the royalty was chosen.

This year's senior rodeo queen is Martina Wardle, 18, of Lehi. Wardle is the daughter of Mitch and Deanna Wardle and will be a student at Utah Valley University in the fall. First attendant is Elisa Lewis, 16, daughter of Kelly and Jeanne Lewis of Payson. Elisa was last year's junior queen. Second Attendant is Stormy Henderson, 21, daughter of Derk and Denise Henderson of Riverton.

The senior category is for young women ages 17 to 25. The queen received a trophy saddle and help in paying entry fee to Miss Rodeo Utah in July. The entire court received trophy buckles and cash awards.

Girls ages 8 to 15 were eligible for the junior category. Amanda Anderson, 15, daughter of Brett and Melody Anderson of Highland was crowned queen. First attendant is Colleen Southwick, 13, of Alpine, daughter of Chris and Gwyneth Zebley. Second Attendant is Amber Wright, 13, daughter of Mark and Teresa Wright of Lindon. Junior royalty received trophy buckles.

According to Jolynne Goodman, Women's Auxiliary President, members of the rodeo royalty will represent Strawberry Days every night of the rodeo and be present at many Strawberry Days activities. "They will also meet with [LDS] church officials and the governor," said Goodman. "They will go to different city councils to promote Strawberry Days and take cheesecake," she added. They will participate in many parades throughout the summer.

This year's rodeo will take place on June 18, 19, 20 and 21. Pre-rodeo entertainment will begin at 7:30 and the rodeo will begin at 8 p.m.
