Strawberry Days 2008 was officially kicked off last week with the Rodeo Queen Pageant and the naming of junior and senior rodeo royalty. After being judged in horsemanship, modeling, public speech, impromptu question and interview with judges, the royalty was chosen.
This year's senior rodeo queen is Martina Wardle, 18, of Lehi. Wardle is the daughter of Mitch and Deanna Wardle and will be a student at Utah Valley University in the fall. First attendant is Elisa Lewis, 16, daughter of Kelly and Jeanne Lewis of Payson. Elisa was last year's junior queen. Second Attendant is Stormy Henderson, 21, daughter of Derk and Denise Henderson of Riverton. The senior category is for young women ages 17 to 25. The queen received a trophy saddle and help in paying entry fee to Miss Rodeo Utah in July. The entire court received trophy buckles and cash awards. Girls ages 8 to 15 were eligible for the junior category. Amanda Anderson, 15, daughter of Brett and Melody Anderson of Highland was crowned queen. First attendant is Colleen Southwick, 13, of Alpine, daughter of Chris and Gwyneth Zebley. Second Attendant is Amber Wright, 13, daughter of Mark and Teresa Wright of Lindon. Junior royalty received trophy buckles. According to Jolynne Goodman, Women's Auxiliary President, members of the rodeo royalty will represent Strawberry Days every night of the rodeo and be present at many Strawberry Days activities. "They will also meet with [LDS] church officials and the governor," said Goodman. "They will go to different city councils to promote Strawberry Days and take cheesecake," she added. They will participate in many parades throughout the summer. This year's rodeo will take place on June 18, 19, 20 and 21. Pre-rodeo entertainment will begin at 7:30 and the rodeo will begin at 8 p.m. Strawberry Days Rodeo: June 18, 19, 20 and 21 Pre-rodeo entertainment starts at 7:30 p.m. and the PRCA Rodeo will start at 8:00 p.m. (located in the Pleasant Grove Arena) More than 1,100 additional seats will be brought in than what are currently in the facility. Ticket prices: $10 for adults, $5 for children Wednesday night $12 adults, children under 10 free with an adult Thursday night $12 all seats, Friday and Saturday night.
