UVSC to host 21st annual Auto Expo Print E-mail
Daily Herald

Utah Valley State College will host the 21st annual Auto Expo and Swap Meet on Friday and Saturday on campus and at Thanksgiving Point. The event will feature more than 600 car entries, eligible for more than 110 awards. The Auto Expo is among one of the largest car shows in Utah and includes local car clubs and unique private collections.

This year, Dennis Gage will visit the expo while filming his TV show "My Classic Car" which appears on the SPEED network and reaches more than 75 million households in North America. The expo will also host Charley Hutton, one of the top automobile painters in the United States.¬ ¬

"The public can expect a day filled with great cars and family entertainment," said Kim Chiu, from UVSC's Institutional Development and Planning. "In addition to the car show, the Automotive Swap Meet is one of the largest in Utah and draws people from all over the Northwest. It is an exciting time with UVSC changing its name to Utah Valley University on July 1. We hope this expo will show the public that our technology departments are still alive and well even with the changes that the institution is going through."

The activities start with a pre-event social Friday at Barber Brothers at 1341 North Main Street in Spanish Fork, (I-15 Exit 257) from 1-5:30 p.m. A cruise will begin at 5:45 p.m. with the cars leaving Barber Brothers to Utah Lake State Park and ending up at the UVSC Auto Trades compound with demonstrations, live music and a barbeque. The cost for the barbeque is $5.

The hours of the car show and swap meet will be from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Public admission for the car show is $3 per person and children 3 and under are free.

There is no admission fee for the swap meet, which will be located in the parking lot just off of Electric Park at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi. Proceeds exceeding show costs will be donated to scholarships for auto, diesel and collision repair students at UVSC.
