• The North Utah Valley Animal Shelter, 193 N. 2000 West in Lindon, will be having its first adopt-a-thon from 10 a.m. to noon today. There will be free drinks and cotton candy. Marc Bailey and Peter Breinholt for the Pemberton family, which lost its mother, Jennifer, on April 1, will be today from 4-8 p.m. at the Silver Lake Amphitheater, 7920 N. Silver Lake Parkway. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and are available at the door. The event is free to the public and will feature landscape design classes, cactus and container gardening classes, activities for the kids and tours of its water-wise demonstration garden, which is designed to conserve water. Dawgs Hotdogs will provide hot dogs to the first 100 people at 1 p.m. PLEASANT GROVE • Ronald Campbell, special education teacher at Manila Elementary, will be named Utah's "Most Active Teacher" of the third annual Walk the Walk competition in an assembly Monday at 9:15 a.m. at the school, 1726 N. 600 West. Campbell walked more than 3.8 million steps to beat more than 1,400 of his peers throughout Utah during March and April. He will receive a check for $500 to be used for healthy activities as well as a retreat for two to the Zermatt Resort Spa in Midway. PROVO • If you are interested in participating in the Adopt-a-Flower Bed program, call the Provo city parks volunteer services coordinator at 852-7607 for additional information. As part of the program, volunteer groups will maintain the flower beds they planted, weeding them approximately every two weeks throughout the summer. Currently 30 of the 47 flower beds have been adopted. SPANISH FORK • Volunteers are needed to help plant flowers on Main Street at 9 a.m. today as part of the Adopt-a-Planter program. If you are not already volunteering with a church or civic group, just go to Main Street and look for flats of flowers delivered to the planters by the city crews.
