It was a beginning and an end for graduates of Willow Creek School in Provo on Friday at a ceremony honoring the class of 2008.
Sarah Rogers, a science teacher at Willow Creek, told graduates that the years after they turn 18 and leave school are full of great change, and though they may not realize it, the change is more than never having to ask permission to go to the bathroom again.
"You get to try new things," Rogers said.
In the years since Rogers graduated from high school, she's gotten married, lived in four states, attended two universities and had countless jobs. She urged the graduates to do the same.
Jennifer Wilde, a therapist at the school, commended the students for overcoming their challenges and persevering to graduation.
"I'm very proud of the work that you guys have done," she said. "This is a tough place to be and a hard road to travel."
