Independent voter surveys GOP event Print E-mail
Daily Herald

I am not a Republican. Like the majority of the voters in Utah, I am unaffiliated. That leaves me with no power to choose my candidate. Even though I get to vote in November, and even though I may eventually vote for a Republican, since my registration card says, "UNA,"I have no choice about who is on the ballot. That decision was made by the delegates to the Republican State Convention.

I wanted to know who was picking my representatives, so I snuck into the convention on Saturday, looked around, and watched for awhile. I was horrified. Crazy people are choosing my representatives -- booing, hissing, nit-picking, rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth, ultra-conservatives. Nuts. I didn't pay attention or get organized or do any work for David Leavitt, and now I have to choose between Chaffetz, the poster boy for the lunatic fringe, and Chris Cannon, whose record speaks for itself. I am investigating the Democrats, because the Republicans swung so far to the right, I have no choice.
