As a gift for a priceless sacrifice, Gordon (Gordie) Ewell and his family will soon be moving into a new home in Eagle Mountain.
The new home has been built to align with ADA requirements, and has been built by Alta Vista Homes. The act was done in the footsteps of "Homes for Our Troops," an organization which builds homes for soldiers who have received injuries while in the service to be more compatible with their new lifestyle. This is the first time Alta Vista Homes have taken on this new challenge, but wife Terra Ewell said they have definitely risen to the challenge. "They just continue to amaze me," she said in the midst of picking out paint colors and other interior decisions. "They didn't just use leftover things, or get the cheapest of anything. This is so much a nicer house than I ever would have had." A flag pole has been constructed in the front yard of the home for all who pass by the house to remember who lives there, and just what was given for his country. "Moving into this home will just create such a sense of peace, such a place of safety," Terra said. The "Homes for Our Troops" organization has certain guidelines for homes to be built based on the injuries sustained by the troops, and bought the property and will be handing the title over to the Ewells. The home is just less than 2,300 square feet, Terra said. In addition to the house, a shed has been provided for additional storage. A key ceremony will be held on May 30 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. when the family will be given the keys to their new home. There will be food and entertainment provided. In addition to preparing for a moving day, the Ewells keep busy in their community in plenty of other ways. Two of the Ewells six children will be involved in the parade, as oldest daughter Shelby, 17, is the first attendant of the Eagle Mountain Royalty and son Kenny, 9, will be not only marching in the parade with his Boy Scout troop, but will also be singing with his school. The Ewells other children include Jamie, 16, and Corrin, 12, who keep the family busy as cheerleaders for their schools. The two youngest girls are Scarlett, 3, and Lincoln, 2, who is the family's "liberty baby" Terra said, as she was born while Gordie was away in the service.
