EPHRAIM-- After their graduation, seniors need an outlet for all of their energy and enthusiasm.¬ Unfortunately for many this can mean activities that are not safe or healthy for new graduates that are getting ready to head to college or the work force.
]To counteract this problem, the senior class of North Sanpete High, under the organization of Jeff Ericksen, held their own graduation party in a safe and comfortable environment.
Because of donations by the senior class, many community businesses and individuals, and groups like Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) this activity had something for everyone to do.¬ This year the get together was held at the Greenwood Activity Center on the campus of Snow College in Ephraim.
As students arrive at the party, they are given a prize ticket, and every hour that they are in attendance they are given subsequent tickets.¬ These stubs are put into a large box to be drawn at the end of the festivities for numerous prizes.
Some of the prizes include televisions, mp3 players, banana chairs, and gift cards.¬ When 2 a.m. rolls around names are drawn and the prizes awarded before everyone goes home.
With the help of Ericksen and several volunteer faculty members from the school, the night is planned and well chaperoned.
This year the attendees were fed pizza and pop, and could choose from all the things that the center provides like swimming, racquetball, and basketball, volleyball, karaoke, soccer and video games. There were inflatable areas set up for jousting and boxing.
An estimated 100 students took advantage of the evening. |
