BYU is giving a whole new meaning to the popular LDS missionary phrase "The field is white already to harvest."
For the second time this week the Cougar football program has turned to the mission field to pick up a new recruit.
Former Kahuku (Hawaii) standout Malosi Te'o, a running back who originally signed a letter of intent to play for UNLV, has indicated he has accepted a scholarship offer from the Cougars and will be in Provo this fall, according to Total Blue Sports. Te'o is currently finishing out his mission service in New York.
Earlier this week, former Logan High and Utah State quarterback Riley Nelson announced his intention to accept a BYU scholarship offer when he returns from his mission in 2009.
Te'o (5-foot-10, 200 pounds) rushed for 262 yards in the state championship game and ran for more than 1,000 yards as a senior at Kahuku, despite missing almost half the season.
BYU is apparently trying to corner the market on the Te'o family. Malosi is a cousin of BYU defensive back commit Shiloah Te'o, who will join the Cougars this fall, and another cousin is five-star BYU linebacker recruit Manti Te'o, who has yet to announce his collegiate choice. |
