Health Care California assisted living center group buys Draper rehab center -- The Ensign Group Inc., a Mission Viejo, Calif.-based operator of 62 skilled nursing, rehabilitative care and assisted living centers in the western United States, including one in Orem, bought an 83-bed skilled nursing home in Draper for about $3 million.
The Draper Rehabilitation and Care Center was acquired from an affiliate of Oregon-based Westcare Management Inc., which provides residential care services to the developmentally disabled in Idaho, Ensign announced on Thursday. The Draper center, the second Utah center Ensign acquired this month, has between 120 and 130 workers. Ensign bought the 120-bed, 115-worker Orem Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for $2 million on May 1. Both the Orem and Draper centers were acquired with proceeds from Ensign's initial public offering in November, which raised $58 million. Ensign now has five long-term care centers with 552 beds in Utah -- the company's fourth-largest market. "The reimbursement rates paid by state programs, the regulatory environment and the demographics in Utah made it attractive for us to expand here," said Daniel Walker, deputy general counsel for Ensign Group. Ensign entered the Utah market in July 2006 with its acquisition of Mt. Ogden Health and Rehabilitation Center, a 120-bed skilled nursing center in Ogden. The company now owns a total of 28 assisted living centers nationwide, with Ensign affiliates holding purchase options on eight of Ensign's 34 leased centers.
