UTAH ENTERING CLOSED FIRE SEASON Print E-mail
Daily Herald

The open burning season officially ended June 1 in Utah. Individuals wishing to conduct open burning operations after last Sunday must get a permit before burning. Permits can be obtained through the county fire warden. The public can contact county wardens via their local area office or by calling the Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands at 801-538-5555.

The ban does not prohibit campfires or fires in backyard fireplaces; however, caution is advised with any burning. Fire danger will increase rapidly as warmer weather finally develops, and fire experts have found that despite the heavy winter and moist spring, vegetation is still relatively dry. So far this spring, several debris burns have blown out of control, escaped and become wildfires burning private and public land.

Officials anticipate that the burning season will re-open November 1. As an alternative to burning, many landfills have sites available for organic material disposal at little or no cost.
