Celebrity Vocal Competition

Future "American Idol" stars can gain experience at the SCERA theater's third annual singing competition, which begins this Wednesday.

With vocal and instrumental backup, singers can choose from more than 600 songs to perform before judges in a competition to perform at various events throughout the year, including an appearance on the ABC program "Good Things Utah."

The top six finalists will open for Boyz II Men on Aug 28.

The competition begins Wednesday and will continue through August. There is a $30 registration fee and a limit of 15 singers per night. Call 225-ARTS to reserve a spot. For more information, visit www.scera.org.


Battle of the Bands

Bands of all styles will battle at Velour Live Music Gallery in Provo next week.

Beginning Monday, four bands will compete each night for the chance to play in the final battle on Saturday.

Winners of the competition will receive recording time and a cash prize.
