Sterling Wayne "Red" Leifson, 47, our loving father, son, brother, uncle, and friend suddenly passed away Monday, June 2, 2008 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah. He was born September 28, 1960 in Spanish Fork, Utah to Ted Victor and Ruth Nelson Leifson. He loved his heritage, home, and childhood. He attended Spanish Fork schools, graduating from Spanish Fork High School. He was active in scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Sterling married Mechelle Nielsen on May 2, 1980, and later divorced. They are the parents of six wonderful children. He was a devoted father and loved being with his family. He worked with his father at Leifson Construction. For the past 19 years, he was employed with Wells Fargo Bank, most recently as Vice President/ Manager of the Spanish Fork Branch.
He loved his community and served in many capacities, including the Spanish Fork Fire Department, Chamber of Commerce Board Member, Spanish Fork Rotary Club member, and was on the Building Board Committee. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was always willing to serve wherever he was needed.
Red enjoyed camping, 4-wheeling, spending time in the mountains, and just being with his family and friends. He loved to make everyone laugh. His contagious smile will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his children: Riley Sterling Leifson, Travis Nielsen Leifson, Jordan Jack Leifson, Jacob Ted Leifson, Judd Victor Leifson, and his little princess, Linzi Leifson; all of Spanish Fork. He is also survived by his loving mother, Ruth N. Leifson; three brothers and a sister, Frank V. (Maureen) Leifson; Lynn W. (Diane) Leifson; Steven M. (Cheryl) Leifson; and Linda (Bill) Beck; a grandson who he adored, Boston Riley Leifson; and his previous spouse, Mechelle Leifson. He was preceded in death by his father, Ted Victor Leifson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Spanish Fork West Stake Center Chapel, 400 North 600 West, Spanish Fork. Family and friends may call on Sunday, June 8, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork, or on Monday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
