Got Tamales?
Tamale lovers take note -- this restaurant in Orem has all you'll ever need. Choose from a dozen different tamale fillings, including several meats and veggies. They even make some dessert tamales with pineapple or strawberry fillings. The tamales are made with corn dough steamed until firm.
A single-tamale meal costs $5, and one with four tamales costs $11. They come with your choice of two sides. You also could choose to put the tasty fillings in a burrito or on a pile of chips if you're not into tamales. Don't miss the fresh fruit drinks that change daily or the several flavors of salsa.

Little Acorn
This sandwich-and-burger joint in Pleasant Grove charges fast-food prices for better-than-average food.
The sandwich you want is called the Shadow Fighter (don't ask us why) and comes with a beef patty, cheese, ham, tomatoes, onions, lettuce and a special sauce. It's served on thick, toasted bread instead of a bun, and, boy, is it a mean sandwich.
The chicken strips were another favorite -- thin batter, juicy chicken and a smooth ranch sauce for dipping. The fries are plentiful and tasty and the shakes are small enough and cheap enough that you'll need one to top off your meal.

Model A Cafe
This family diner in Mapleton is like something out of the movies. We were almost surprised that the server didn't know our names.
The menu is familiar: breakfast served all day, burgers, sandwiches and chicken-fried steak. Most dishes are between $6 and $12. But the best part is that it may be even better than Mama's home cooking.
We loved the mashed potatoes and couldn't get enough of the House Apple Cake. Even the dinner salads were great, complete with a variety of greens and real bacon bits. The tasty food and big portions made us want to go back right away.
