Since "God's Army" kicked open the door for movies thematically tied to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there have been a fistful of movies about men on a mission -- an LDS proselytizing mission, that is -- including "Suits on the Loose," "The Best Two Years of My Life" and "The Other Side of Heaven." "God's Army" itself was about male missionaries, as was its sequel, "States of Grace."
The new movie "The Errand of Angels," however, which launched its official Web site last week, explores a niche in missionary movies that's been hitherto largely unexplored. Female LDS missionaries have been characters in other missionary movies, but "The Errand of Angels" makes female, or "sister" missionaries and their experiences in Austria its primary focus.
A trailer for the new film, written and directed by LDS Film Festival founder Christian Vuissa, can be viewed online at www.errandofangels.com. "The Errand of Angels" will open in local theaters Aug. 15.
