Bill Evans returns to Utah -- Bill Evans is making a special appearance at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center Black Box Theatre, 138 West 300 South, on July 3. The show, "An Intimate Evening of Tap Dancing with Bill Evans,"¬ begins at 7:30 p.m. and will also feature Salt Lake City tap artist and a former Evans student, Deborah Robertson.
A Lehi native, the 63-year-old Evans is known for his dynamic range, his expressivity, his musicality and his unique fusion of rhythm tap dance and modern dance.¬ Performing as a member of the Repertory Dance Theater from 1967 through 1974 before forming his own internationally-renowned company, Evans will return to Salt Lake City this summer to teach in the annual RDT summer dance workshop and perform the 90- minute tap dance concert on July 3. He will perform an evening of diverse tap works, ranging from rhythm tap classics to his own unique lyrical style, which fuses tap and modern dance. An article about his national impact was featured in the October, 2003 issue of Dance Magazine. He was voted one of the three top American tap dance artists (with Savion Glover and Brenda Bufalino) in the most recent Dance Magazine Readers Poll. His book, "Reminiscences of a Dancing Man: A Photographic Journey of a Life in Dance," was published in 2005.¬ He earned an MFA from the University of Utah and is a Certified Laban Movement Analyst. He has been a professor of dance at the Universities of Utah, Washington, Indiana and New Mexico, where he is now professor emeritus. He is currently serving as a guest artist in residence at the State University of New York College at Brockport Department of Dance. Arts in the Park returns -- Concerts for the Arts in the Park series will return to Wines Park, 500 N. Center St., Lehi, with a kick off concert for Round-up Week on June 22 at 7 p.m. featuring Johnny and the Rebels. Former Miss Lehi titleholders will entertain on June 29 at the same time and place. The series will continue through July and August with the National Guard Air Force Band on July 6, JaNae Kotter and Friends on July 13; Lehi Silver Band, Youth Orchestra and Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Chorale for July 20; a Broadway Sing-along on July 27; a surprise concert on Aug. 3, the Stevens Party on Aug. 10, Citrine on Aug. 17 and Joshua Creek on Aug. 24. Each concert is free to the public and those attending are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, picnics for the event. In case of inclement weather it will be at the Lehi Arts Center, 685 N. Honorary Miss Lehi 2008 -- The daughter of Mark and Sandy McDade of Lehi, Meagan McDade was announced Saturday as the Honorary Miss Lehi 2008. Meagan is a Lehi High School student and enjoys spending time with her family. Meagan dances and performs with "PALS" of Orem and is working as a preschool aide. She loves her job, enjoys watching movies, playing with her dog "Mac," and attending Special Needs Mutual. A joy to be around, Meagan can always bring a smile to a situation and is an inspiration to those who watch her overcome challenges and struggles with courage and strength. She will have the opportunity to ride in the Grand Parade during Round-up Days as Honorary Miss Lehi 2008. SR 92/ALPINE LOOP OPEN TO MOTORISTS -- The Utah Department of Transportation has re-opened state Route 92, or the Alpine Loop between Provo and American Fork Canyons, to motorists. S.R. 92 is a seasonal highway and due to heavy snowfall in the area, it becomes cost -prohibitive to keep the pass open for travel during the winter months. This road will remain open through fall 2008. |
