Santaquin Library reading program has Olympics theme Print E-mail

Santaquin City Library held its open house to start their summer program for children Kindergarten to 8th grade. June 4th was the date. It will have an Olympic theme. The Library will have a big poster hanging on the wall. It will have all the participants names, and their points will be posted each week.

Each week there is a reading requirement of 30 minutes, a parent may also read to the child. Six out of ten, other activities must be completed for each week.

The Opening Ceremonies was held inside the Library because of rain. The rain did not stop the fun, there were all kinds of Olympic events like a broad jump, ring toss, basketball and other events. It was a big celebration 230 children showed up with their parents. Four times more books were checked out than usual. McKenzie Westover 2nd attendant to Miss Santaquin was there to help with the fun. The goal is to "Go For The Gold" Gold = 25 to 30 points Silver=15 to 20 points and Bronze is 5 to 10 points. A worksheet will be passed out each week, when this is returned it is worth 5 points, if each of the six weeks are completed it is worth 30 points.

On June the 30th the first 70 Participants to bring in their week 3 worksheet will receive a treat. This will be celebrated as the half way point. July 30th will be the Closing Ceremony in conjunction with the children's parade celebrating Orchard Day. All entries must be in by July 28th. The Final Prize Drawings will be held noon to 5:45 PM on the 30th. It is not too later, participants can still sign up, and can make up the first week, come "Go For The Gold".
