Amid cheers and tears, Miss Lehi 2007 Jami Thacker placed the 2008 Miss Lehi crown on Emily Daniels Saturday evening.
"Absolutely fantastic, excited and overwhelmed," said Emily on winning the coveted title. This is the second year she will serve as Miss Lehi royalty; Emily was an attendant in 2007. Her father Derek Daniels said he is looking forward to driving her and the royalty in this season's parades. "It's a ton of work," said Daniels. "It takes a whole crew, a family team, but we know she's going to be great." Emily's platform is "Empowering Students with Learning Disabilities through Mentoring" which she spoke about during her interview and for her talent, she sang "Quando men vo," Musetta's aria from La Bohîme Full of excitement and surprises, the Miss Lehi Scholarship had the number of contestants cut down from 11 to 10 earlier in the day of the event when contestant Noel Miller was taken to the hospital for an appendectomy. City dignitaries attending the pageant included Mayor Howard and Elaine Johnson, Councilman Mark and Colette Johnson and their family, and of course, Councilman Johnny Revill who served as the pageant's master of ceremonies, and his extended family. Revill decided to place a phone call to Noel to have the audience say "hi" to her during the program which they did with enthusiasm. The pageant contestants also nominated Noel with an Honorary Spirit of Miss Lehi award. Several awards were given out, but Emily won the talent, interview and physical fitness categories, awards key to the competition. As Miss Lehi, she will represent the city of Lehi at the Round-up Celebration during the last full week of June and she and her attendants will be seen at several of the upcoming events: the Round-up Barbecue, two of the city's three parades, at the Family Fun Fair and the Picnic in the Park. First attendant Kenzie Norris, second attendant Camille Belnap and third attendant AuBriel Campbell will accompany Emily around the state for other city celebrations and parades as ambassadors of their community. "I'll be in the parade smiling and waving and excited to be there," said AuBriel. Having fulfilled their responsibilities as 2007 Lehi royalty, Cailie, Emily and Jami were given their scholarships from Revill on stage during the awards announcements. Jami will be focusing on preparing for her competition in July during the Miss Utah Scholarship Pageant. Her platform for the pageant is on childhood obesity prevention and has created a DVD for children titled "Fit and Fun."
