SF SF City council Print E-mail
Lana Creer-Harris - SPANISH FORK PRESS

More Spanish Fork citizens put their two cents in about recycling during the Spanish Fork City council meeting than commented about the budget. When council opened the floor for public comment on the FY 09 budget, no citizens rose to speak.

At the beginning of the meeting, assistant City Manager Seth Perrins told the council 300 households had signed up for the voluntary recycling program. Mayor Thomas looked straight into the SFCN camera and challenged anyone who hadn t signed up for recycling go to the website and sign up now. Thomas thought it could be our own Nielsen rating to see how many people watched the council meeting and signed up.

Perrins then presented details of what would be accepted for recycling: No glass of any kind; no green waste; no food soiled items i.e. pizza boxes, unwashed plastic micro trays etc. Allied Waste Management, the company with the contract set these rules. Food cans should be washed out. Green waste; grass clippings, garden trimmings and tree slash should be transported to the compost yard off Expressway lane. Glass recycling is not available.

Perrins said the City is not looking to make money, it just wants to cover the costs of the program.

At the end of the meeting three people had signed up for recycling.

The council was looking for comment on the $52.6 million budget for the general and all other funds. City Finance Director Kent Clark went over every budget item and explained it.

No citizens spoke up.The budget will be accepted at the June 17 Council meeting.
