NEBO Nebo School District Retirees Print E-mail

Karen Beagley, bus driver for transportation, is retiring from Nebo School District after 32 years.¬ 

Karen responded, "I drove in Haskellville for 7 years and 25 years in Elk Ridge. I really miss my co-workers and my children on the bus."

Karen has been the association president for 10 years.¬ She also served on the USEA board for 5 years. Karen enjoys spending time with family, grandchildren and friends. She and her children own Napa Auto Parts in Springville.

Karen resides in Spanish Fork and has two children and eight grandchildren.

Melvin Carter, adult sweeper at Payson Junior High School, is retiring from Nebo School District after six years. Melvin received recognition from Springville High School for a job well done.

Melvin responded, "Do it and do it right the first time. My father made a big difference in my life."

Melvin enjoys fishing and four-wheeling. He is married to Bonnie.¬ They reside in Payson and have two children.

Brenda Christensen, food service manager at Payson Middle School, is retiring from Nebo School District after 28 years. She has been at Payson Middle School for 15 years, 7 years at Goshen Elementary, 3 years at Springville Middle School and 3 years at Rees Elementary.

Brenda responded, "I appreciate the fine people that I have had the opportunity to work with over the years in Nebo School District.¬  I have a lot of special memories from each of the schools in the district that I have worked in.¬  I have developed a lot of friendships throughout the years that I will cherish forever.¬  I appreciate all of the people throughout the district that have been such great examples to me and believed in me. I also appreciate the opportunity to serve the children of Nebo School District.¬  My motto over the year - 'I will not serve food to the children that I myself would not eat.'"

Brenda has been awarded the Heart of the Kitchen Award and Nebo School District Distinguished Service Award. She belongs to the State and National School Nutrition Associations.

"I grew up on a farm and had loving parents who taught me the importance of hard work; since retiring I am enjoying traveling with my husband and going the places that his job takes him, expressed Brenda."

Brenda enjoys yard work, fishing, crocheting, reading, sewing, traveling and watching grandchildren play sports. She is married to Grant. They reside in Payson and have three children and four grandchildren.

Shirley Davis, bus technician at Barnett Elementary, is retiring from Nebo School District after seven years of service.¬  She also has seven years outside the district.

Shirley responded, "I love being with children - they make my day. My motto is children's safety first. I enjoy each and every one. I have enjoyed my years on the bus.¬ I love all kids. I have enjoyed all the people I have worked with in Nebo School District.¬  They are great. I will miss working but I will also enjoy staying home and loving and spoiling my 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren."

Shirley enjoys art and quilting. She resides in Payson and has five children.

Donna Ann Fellows, technician at Payson High School, is retiring from Nebo School District after 16 years of service.

Donna responded, "If you love your job, you will never work a day in your life. Friends and family are forever."

Donna was awarded the Distinguished Service Award Nebo School District in 1995. She enjoys computers, reading, dancing and finance.

Donna was married to the late Ted Fellows. She resides in Salem and has five children and ten grandchildren.¬  Donna is also an eleven-year cancer survivor!

Patricia Gasser, cook at Payson Junior High School, is retiring from Nebo School after 24 years of service.

Patricia responded, "I love life and doing things for people, especially children. The one who has made a difference in my life was Zelda Kearl.¬  She inspired me from the first day I worked for her. She was the greatest."

Patricia has been awarded two Hearts of the Program Awards and Employee of the Year.

Patricia stated, "I've worked for Nebo District for 24 years, and I've worked with some of the greatest women and got to know some of the greatest kids. It has been a great 24 years and breaks my heart to leave."

Patricia has been involved in the migrant and summer program for 10 years. She enjoys art and wood burning Indian women, babies and animals. She is married to Don, and they have three children.

Joan Spencer, cook at Spring Lake Elementary, is retiring from Nebo School District after 31 years of service. Joan has been awarded the 15 year pin, 20 year pin, 25 year pin and 30 year pin as well as the Heart of the Program Award.¬ 

Joan responded, "I have really enjoyed my employment and owe it all to the people I have had the opportunity to work with."

Joan enjoys crocheting, yard work and long walks. She is married to Micheal Spencer.¬  They reside in Salem and have four children and thirteen grandchildren.

Glenna Tanner, lunch manager at Spring Lake Elementary, is retiring from Nebo SchoolDistrict after 29 years of service. She received the heart of the program award and is a certified SNA member.¬ 

Glenna responded, "I have seen a lot of changes over the last 29 years in food service.¬  But most of all, I will miss the students and the people I have worked with. I have loved by job and will miss all of you. I appreciate the opportunity I've had to work with some really great ladies."

Glenna enjoys spending time with family, fishing, campingand four wheeling.¬  She is married to Kay.They reside in Payson and have two children and seven grandchildren.

Clyde C. Ward, head custodian at Payson Middle School and Mt. Nebo Junior High, is retiring from Nebo School District after 28 years of service.

Clyde responded, "Thanks to Lamar Wilson for believing in me and giving me a job.¬  Thanks to Tom Hudson, Ron Jensen,Barbara Quackenbush and Kaye Isakson for keeping me around.

He also said, "A wise man once told me, if you really enjoy what you do for a living, you will never work another day in your life.I have very much enjoyed my job and the people I have worked with."

Clyde enjoys hunting, fishing and wood carving. He is married to Debbie.They reside in Payson and have three children.

Randy Bartholomew, keyboarding specialist at the Grant Building, is retiring from Nebo School District after 31 years of service.¬  Mr. Bartholomew taught third grade for 2 years at Brockbank Elementary, fourth grade for 14 years at Barnett Elementary, sixth grade for 14 years at Payson Middle School and 1 year as Nebo District Keyboarding Specialist.¬  He has 3 years in another district.

Mr. Bartholomew stated, "The greatest teacher in my life was Blaine Bradford.¬ He made fifth grade the most exciting, interesting and fun year in my school experience and was my inspiration to go into elementary education.I hope I have done the same for my students over the years."

Mr. Bartholomew taught the first Special Education Inclusion class in South Australia. He received the Crystal Apple Award in 2006 and was nominated as the Teacher of the Year from Payson Middle School in 2007.

Mr. Bartholomew has served on the Payson Onion Days committee, organizing many events for the Labor Day celebration, currently with the annual Onion Days Bake-Off.¬ 

He has also served on the Arbor Day Committee.Mr. Bartholomew commented, "I began my teaching career in 1974 by signing on to teach in South Australia. I really learned what "scope and sequence" means as I had very few materials or manuals to help me organize the curriculum. Everything we do in education falls in a particular order. We just need to learn the order. I had some great experiences there, which include meeting and marrying my wife and the birth of our first son."

Mr. Bartholomew enjoys cooking, especially for large groups including ward banquets, youth activities, Scout trips and barbeques. My wife thinks I should be a caterer. I raise chickens and also travel to foreign countries.¬ I have visited many countries including Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, Virgin Islands, Japan, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Italy and India.¬ I hope to visit many more places in future years.

Randy is married to Susan.They reside in Payson and have five children.

Lynn S. Coray, teacher at Nebo Technology Center and Payson Jr. High is retiring from Nebo School District after 27 years of service. He has another four years outside the district.

Mr. Coray said, "I still have all my fingers. My students have all left my class with all the body parts they came in with.¬  I'm looking forward to the opportunity to enjoying new places and things."

"Education is the process of discovery. I've truly enjoyed the students I've had the opportunity to work with, but more than that, I have enjoyed associating with the best people in the world.In my community and religious activities, I have recognized that teachers are worth their weight in gold," remarked Mr. Coray.

Mr. Coray enjoys the outdoors and is involved with Boy Scouts of America at the unit, district and council level.

He is married to Linda and they reside in Spanish Fork.¬  They have two children the late Jill Coray and Chris Coray.

Keela Goudy, teacher at Barnett Elementary is retiring from Nebo School after 29 years of service. Mrs Goudy taught third grade for 6 years at Santaquin Elementary and 2 years at Park View; She taught kindergarten for 10 years at Park View and 11 years at Barnett. Mrs. Goudy has been awarded the PTA "Thank a Teacher Award" in 1990 and the AreaPTA Teacher Award in 2006.

Mrs. Goudy stated, "Teaching is a journey in which we show up every day and are given the opportunity to find the joy in the journey. Some days the joy is harder to find than others, but it's always been there as I've shared with the children and they have given back to me in return.¬ 

Many lasting friendships have been made with fellow teachers, staff members, principals and parents through the years. I've truly enjoyed the journey.¬ 

Nothing is more rewarding than the joy that is felt when a child's face lights up with understanding of what has been taught.¬ It has been a journey of

love."

Mrs. Goudy is involved in church service, a community choir member, treasurer and volunteer at the Santaquin Chieftain Museum.¬  She enjoys music (vocal, piano and guitar), camping and traveling.

Mrs. Goudy is married to Andrew.¬  They reside in Santaquin and have two children.

George R. Jackson, welding teacherat Spanish Fork High School, is retiring from Nebo School District after 32 years of service. He has another year outside the district.

Mr. Jackson stated, "I am grateful to have spent a good portion of my life with many outstanding students, who are now my friends."

Mr. Jackson has been awardedthe UVATA Teacher of the year and is treasurer of UVATA.¬ 

He is a board member of Juab County beef contest committee, East Juab Water Conservancy District and Juab County.

Mr. Jackson enjoys farming and ranching. He is married to Jill.¬  They reside in Nephi and have five children.

Ardis Leatham, third-grade teacher at Santaquin Elementary, is retiring from Nebo School District after 26 years of service. Mrs.Leatham taught English, physical education, math, science, social studies, art and music for 9 years at Santaquin Middle School. She taught third grade for 17 years at Santaquin Elementary.

Mrs. Leatham was awarded Santaquin Teacher of the Year in 2006.

Mrs. Leatham stated, "Learning is hard work!¬  But that doesn't mean it can't be fun for the teacher and the students. It's the 'hands on' experiences the students will remember for a long time. Elementary classrooms should be filled with books the children can read and have read to them (with enthusiasm.)¬ Ample writing time is vital.I guess that takes us back to 'Reading', 'Riting', and 'Rithemetic'!"

Mrs. Leatham is involved in the Payson Community Theatre Board (Currently President); Payson Civic Chorale (Sang in Carnegie Hall) and State delegate for a political party. Mrs. Leatham enjoys grandchildren, travel church activities, music and theater.

Mrs. Leatham is a member of the NEA-delegate to ten conventions; UEA-Council of Local Presidents, PR&R board, Nebo Education Association president and vice president, Bonneville Uniserv president and vice president,Kids Cause and PTA president for Wilson Elementary.

Ardis is married to Alex.They reside in Elk Ridge and havefive children and fifteen grandchildren.

Richard K. Lee, math teacher at Payson Junior High School, is retiring from Nebo School District after 32 years of service. Mr. Lee taught Algebra I, pre-algebra and applied math for 20 years, Computer Literacy for 5 years, Utah History for 1 year, fourth grade for 1 year, third grade for 1 year, sixth grade for 3 years and fifth grade for 1 year.

Mr. Lee said, "I tried to follow a saying from Confucius.'Find a job that you love and you never have to work another day of your life.'¬ I found that to be true in teaching. I tried to instill in my students that you can't change where you come from, only what you can become."Mr. Lee has been President and President-Elect of Nebo Education Association, President and President-Elect of Bonneville Uniserv, UEA Board of Directors and Nebo Education Association Treasurer. He belongs to the Nebo Education Association, Utah Education Association, National Education Association, NCTM, UCTM and UCCE.

Mr. Lee stated, "I will not be leaving education entirely.¬ I willbe an educational administrator at a private treatment center near Moroni. I strive to live by the motto posted at BYU, 'Enter to learn - go forth to serve.'¬ It has not always been easy, and many bumps later, it has been worth the time to me. I never could have made it without family and friends and my schools.Thanks for the memories."

Mr. Lee enjoys family, reading, most sports, camping with family, hunting, and genealogy indexing names.Mr. Lee is married to Rebecca.¬  They reside in Payson and have six children.

Diana Neves, seventh-grade and ninth-grade teacher at Mt. Nebo Junior High, is retiring from Nebo School District after 19 years of service and 2 years outside the district.

Mrs. Neves has been involved in the Spanish Fork Community Theater, is an avid reader and learner. She loves horseback riding in the mountains and canyons and hopes to become a better photographer, writer, friend, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Neves stated, "Teaching is an act of faith - you keep sending out the invitations.¬  My journey as humble learner and teacher through the years, first at Payson Middle School and now Mt. Nebo Junior High, has had its unforgettable moments with unforgettable students.

Each day as I survived another incursion into the halls during class break to enter the classroom, I became more grateful to be a teacher. It is an enviable position to be in the midst of the exuberant, idealistic, irreverent youth of our community, and to guide them toward maturity, urging them and fortifying them onward and upward towards their bright futures.

Teaching is hard work. This passageway would not have been half as fun or memorable without my earnest, visionary friends and colleagues.¬  Thanks for the ride."

Mrs. Neves is on the National Council of Teachers of English, Utah Reading Association, Nebo Reading Council, National Education Association and Utah Education Association. She is married to Eldon.¬ They reside in Spanish Fork and have seven children.

Linda W. Renzello, fourth-grade teacher at Barnett Elementary, is retiring from Nebo School District after 22 years of service.¬ 

Mrs. Renzello stated, "Being part of a group of the dedicated teachers of Nebo School District has been an adventure full of challenges, responsibilities, preparations and opportunities. I have been grateful to go on this journey with team members that worked together with real meaning and purpose.¬ I value the friendships of the administrators, my co-workers, and the many outstanding young people that I have had the pleasure of working with over the years. They all have had a huge impact on my life."

Mrs. Renzello has served on schoolcommunity council for Barnett Elementary and Payson Middle School. She was awarded the Crystal Apple for 2006-2007 and the Payson Middle School 1999 Terrific Teacher Award from Kiwanis Club.

Mrs. Renzello enjoys reading, bowling, travel and family activities. She is married to the late William and resides in Payson and has seven children.

Lauren Tanner, fourth-grade teacher at Barnett Elementary, is retiring from Nebo School District after 22 years of service.

Mrs. Tanner taught fifth grade for 11 years, fourth grade for 6 years and was an Intern Facilitator for 5 years.Mrs. Tanner stated, "I believe all children can learn when given enough time and attention and at the proper level. I wanted to be a teacher since I was a junior in high school and after 20 years of marriage and 6 children, I finally had my dream come true.¬ That just shows what persistence and determination can do for you!"

Lauren has been awarded the Teacher of the Year for Barnett, the Presidential Excellence in Science Award, the Utah Legislative Teacher of the Year in 1992, NASA Educator, Distance Learning Endorsement and Air Force Education Foundation Teacher of the Year for Region and State.

Lauren has also been involved on the Library Board, Air Force Education Foundation and Friends of Clark Planetarium Board. She is a member of the national, state and Nebo EducatorsAssociations and the National Science Teachers Association.

Lauren enjoys the piano, singing, reading children's novels, camping, hiking, traveling, music in general and writing.¬ She is married to Dale. They reside in Payson and have six children.
