Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Dorothy May Smarkol, "Smitti", peacefully passed away on Monday, June 16, 2008 at her home in Provo, Utah.
She was born August 24, 1918 in Covina, California to Edom Van and Jeanette Martin McDonald. She graduated from Whittier High School at the age of 16 and attended cosmetology school after graduation.
Dorothy married her sweetheart, Edward Ralph Smarkol on April 28, 1976 in Newport Beach, California.
She was a dedicated wife and mother always putting the needs of her family above her own. She spent 45 years as a self-employed salon owner and cosmetologist and formed many lasting friendships. Dorothy retired from traveling and representing Formodyl Hair Products in 1976. She loved to swim, and especially loved the Pacific Ocean and bodysurfing. She enjoyed two weeks at Meeks Bay, Lake Tahoe every summer with her hubby and dear friends.
She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Ed; three daughters, Carol (and Jerry) Galloway, Escondido, CA; Judith (and "Doc", deceased) Dockstader, Twin Peaks, CA; Kathleen (and Duane) Koyle, Spanish Fork, UT; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren who adored her. She is also survived by a brother, Donald E. "Mac" (and Eve) McDonald, Upland, CA. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Johnny Kaufman.
The family would like to thank the staff at Courtyard at Jamestown Assisted Living for their loving care to "Smitti".
