It¬ wasn't so much shocking, as surprising that at least 17 high school girls in Massachusetts allegedly made a "pregnancy pact" to become pregnant and raise their babies together in the next year. With¬ the media glamorizing¬ young, unwed, pregnant Hollywood stars, it is no wonder that these young high school girls thought a group pregnancy would be a fun endeavor.¬
What amazes me is their nearsighted vision of a "pact." The girls¬ allegedly formed the pregnancy pact¬ with themselves; but they didn't have the long-term vision to form a "permanency pact" with the fathers of these babies.¬ ¬ ¬ ¬
Our young people need to see that human relationship alliances should be based upon comprehensive knowledge, devoted love, determined perseverence, and mutual sacrifice¬ in order to achieve goals beyondthe immediate goals.¬ It¬ takes a¬ unique "permanency pact"¬ to create family stability as well as societal stability.
The concept of "marriage" is misunderstood in today's world. It is the binding pact of permanently fulfilling obligations to yourself¬ and especially to those people who enter into your world. Without a notion of permanency, any "pact" is meaningless. Let's us instill the virtue of "permanency" into the minds of our Utah girls.
