Suggestion for
the commissioners |

So, our county commissioners feel the need to pay themselves 7-10 percent more per year. This makes me positively nauseous.
The wage study they performed also showed that Deputy 1 positions with Utah County were paid less (by about $5 per hour) than other counties of the same size. The commissioners saw fit to grant them a raise that amounts to less than $2 per hour. Now these officers may make enough that they can no longer qualify for Medicaid, but it certainly won't do much to cover rising costs of gas and food. The commissioners spoke of the necessity of drawing quality people to county positions. I agree that this is a laudable goal, but apparently this doesn't include law enforcement personnel.
If the commissioners want to make Utah County a better place, they should start by paying their police officers a decent salary before they pay themselves more. I'm sure the public would much sooner approve a tax increase for those who ensure their safety than for elected officials who already make more than a decent amount of money.
