Capt. Harold Terry isn't the first Lehi officer to be shot. In less than 10 years, three officers have been shot in the line of duty.
• Aug. 3, 2001. Officer Joseph D. Adams was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop in Lehi. He is the only officer who has been killed while on duty in Lehi's history.
Memorials of Adams are everywhere at the Lehi Police Department. A plaque with a picture of the slain officer and the date of his death hang on the wall. The city's new police station bears his name, and every officer has his initials on the patches of their uniforms. His younger brother, Zac Adams, is one of the city's newest police officers.
The man who shot Joseph Adams, Arturo Javier Scott Welch, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
• Jan. 27, 2006. A 38-year-old former Lehi police officer, Art Henderson, was accused of chasing down and shooting his estranged wife's boyfriend before having a shootout with police at 1500 N. Trinnaman Lane in Lehi. One bullet came so close to hitting an officer that it ricocheted off his boot during the incident.
Henderson was struck in the left knee and foot. He had been fired from the Lehi police in 2004 after being charged with misdemeanor simple assault.
Henderson killed himself in April 2006 while being held in the Salt Lake County Jail.
