Nearly $1 million distributed to arts nonprofits Print E-mail
Daily Herald

The Utah Arts Council Board of Directors has approved the distribution of $997,693 in grants to 183 nonprofit arts organizations located throughout the state of Utah. The grants will support arts program costs occurring in the 2008-2009 fiscal year.

"As Utah continues to grow and develop, we receive a greater number of compelling applications. Unfortunately, our funding has not increased with this demand, and so each year we are faced with the challenge of who to fund. This year, due to economic fluctuations, we decided to make very slight decreases to the amount given to individual organizations, and in turn, we were able to assist a greater number of organizations across the board," said Margaret Hunt, Executive Director of the Utah Arts Council.

Grants are distributed in eight categories: community arts councils, dance, literary arts, literary magazines, multi-disciplinary artwork, music, theatre, and the visual arts (which also encompasses architecture and environmental art and design). Recipient organizations are located in 17 counties throughout the state (see the list of grantees in Utah County below. A complete list of grants is available on request).
